Fernando TRUEBA

Madrid, 1955

Fernando Trueba was a film critic well before directing his first feature film, Opera Prima, in 1980. Since then he has made over a dozen films, including, El año de las luces, (Silver Bear Award at the Berlin film Festival, 1987), The Dream of the Mad Monkey, (the winner of 5 Goya awards in 1990 including Best Film), Belle Époque, (winner of the 1993 Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film; 9 Goyas, including Best Film), Two Much (1996), La niña de tus ojos (1998), Calle 54, a musical documentary and homage to Latin Jazz (2000), El embrujo de Shanghai (2002), El milagro de Candeal (2004; Goya Award for the Best Documentary), El baile de la victoria (2009) the cinematographic adaption of Antonio Skarmeta’s novel, and Chico y Rita (2010; Academy Award Nominee Best Animated Feature) a feature length animation with Javier Mariscal and script by Ignacio Martínez de Pisón.

His last work is El artista y la modelo (2012).
