La presonera d’Alger

The Prisoner of Algiers | Empúries, 2002

A melancholic and cynical tale of the battle of Algiers, one of the most painful episodes of the war of independence and one of the traumas, which has still not been overcome, in the contemporary history of France. Daniel Valls, a French solider, idealist and romantic, moves to Algiers.

In the midst of the terrible war, in which human rights are constantly denied both by the French and the FLN independents, Valls falls in love with a young Algerian terrorist. Their relationship is frowned on by the soldier’s colleagues, but in spite of all the warnings and threats, the young couple refuses to renounce their love and only death will be able to separate them.
