The novel makes us reflect on the place women have occupied in the past and occupy now in the history of art, and in life.
Martina, a doctoral student, is researching the life of Matilde Escala, an unknown composer from Majorca at the end of the nineteenth century who worked with Isaac Albéniz, Eric Satie and other great musicians from that era, and who always lived in the shadow of her lover, Santiago Rusiñol.
Maria Escala reconstructs the story of Matilde, the portrait of a woman who experienced the most exciting moments of modernism at the centre of that cultural world, in Paris, Majorca and Barcelona, but who also gave up on her own career and talent for the man with whom she fell in love.
