Piel de plata

Silver Skin | Seix Barral, 2019

A tribute to youth and to the rebellious, often maddening, energy that comes with it.

Pol is a teenager who spends his days reading novels. After an incident at school, he is expelled and begins taking medication. In the psychiatrist’s waiting room, he meets Bronwyn, a rebellious, captivating girl, far smarter than anyone Pol has ever known. Through her, he discovers the work of the poet Juan Eduardo Cirlot and a world beyond his comprehension. When he loses track of Bronwyn, he asks his sister Oli to help him find her.

Silver Skin is a novel about fascination and obsession. Its most visible side is a tribute to youth and the often frenzied, rebellious energy that accompanies it. Its darker side is an elegy for the extinction of that energy and for the effects of time and adult life.

The story takes the reader through a spiral of hallucinations, drugs, and both real and imagined books, as its protagonist searches for his elusive muse through a melancholic, shadowy Barcelona. This muse turns out to be anything but a typical teenage love—a kind of mystical, unattainable grail.
