MALÉN DENIS (she/her) is an Argentine multidisciplinary artist and non-academic philosopher based between New York and Buenos Aires. Her work explores the political role of intimacy, the relationship between spirituality and late capitalism, and the possibilities of first-person narratives. Her first novel, Litio, was published by Caballo de Troya/Penguin Random House in Spain and is forthcoming from New Directions Publishing in the US. She studied Philosophy, Photography, and Audiovisual Production, and holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the National University of Tres de Febrero.
Since 2013, she has led a workshop titled Writing and Intimacy, which uses identity as a path toward finding an authentic voice. In 2024, she launched a second workshop, An Exercise of Freedom, designed for artists across disciplines to reflect on their practices and trace a path forward for their work.
Her essays and cultural critiques have appeared in Nylon, The Washington Post, Architectural Digest, KEXP, NPR, Página 12, and Infobae, among others. Her work has been commissioned by institutions including UNAM (Mexico), the Museo Moderno of Buenos Aires, and the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. She is currently working on Estilo de vida, a hybrid nonfiction book that explores grief, addiction, and the politics of artistic life under late capitalism.
She works as a creative director at her storytelling agency, TRenza.
