Ángeles Caso (Gijón, 1959) has a degree in Art History. She has worked for various cultural institutions, such as the Princípe de Asturias Foundation and the Feijoo Institute of 18th Century Studies at the University of Oviedo. Caso has also worked for several television and radio channels, such as Televisón Española, Cadena Ser and Radio Nacional de España, as well as for the written press. She has also written children’s stories and film scripts and is a translator.
Her most notable written works include: Elisabeth, emperatriz de Austria-Hungría o el hada maldita (Planeta, 2002); El peso de las sombras (finalist in the 1994 Planeta Award, Planeta, 1994); El mundo visto desde el cielo (Planeta, 2011), and El resto de la vida (Planeta, 2011). Un largo silencio (winner of the Fernando Lara Award, Planeta, 2000), has become a key work amongst novels that recover historical memory, and has numerous editions.
Contra el viento (winner of the 2009 Planeta Award, Planeta, 2009), has been translated into fifteen languages and was awarded the Best Foreign Novel Award in China.
She has also written the biographies Elisabeth de Austria- Hungría: álbum privado (Planeta, 2000) and Giuseppe Verdi. La intensa vida de un genio (Temas de Hoy/Planeta, 2001), as well as the essays, Las olvidadas. Una historia de mujeres creadoras (Planeta, 2005) and La casa de los poetas muertos (Edelvives, 2005).
After Las Olvidadas, Caso is publishing Las desheredadas (Lumen, 2023), the second installment on notable women throughout history.
