Prior to his sudden death, Péter – a piano restorer and dealer – left his partner Mei strict instructions: “Don’t sell the pianos too cheaply.”
Mei runs a travel agency but is determined to carry out his wishes, as a tribute to the man she loved. She decides to sell off the pianos one by one. All sorts of people pass through the music shop and Mei faces many unexpected challenges; funny, tragic thought-provoking and surprising.
This novel offers original answers to the enigmas of life; the mystery of the self and the mystery of the other. Once all the pianos are sold, Mei wants closure and travels to Bucharest. There she comes into contact with a disturbing world. As in classical literature, the sale of the seventeen pianos becomes a path to knowledge and transformation
