Argentina collapses under the weight of its economy and drowns in the density of tear gas. Vera does not embrace patriotism to save herself from the shipwreck; on the contrary, she hates this country that has left her imagined homeland without books: the bookstores. And she decides to flee with a compass that doesn’t work and her dog Kantiano, the only living creature in this part of the world that hasn’t abandoned her.
Everyone knows there’s more than one Barcelona. There’s Vera’s Barcelona, the newcomer’s, who survives on the strength of lucky breaks. There is the Barcelona of Eliseu, the prestigious editor, who apparently leads a comfortable, bourgeois life. He too, one day, decided to break from his destiny. Who knows if it is for this reason that he decides to give Vera a chance, as if, in turn, he were giving it to himself before it’s too late.
