Nowadays, those of us who have read Stevenson, Verne or Mark Twain are in the minority. Young readers’ classics have tended to be replaced mostly by dull contemporary works, supposed to be closer to the young reader, easier to read, politically correct, but which often have nothing to do with what we have, up to now, considered to be literature. This book presents twenty-eight quality novels which both children and adults can enjoy reading: Stevenson’s Treasure Island, Dumas’The Three Musketeers, Kipling’s The Jungle Book, Brontë’s Jane Eyre, Stoker’s Dracula, Pushkin’s The Captain’s Daughter and Barrie’s Peter Pan, just to mention a few.

At the beginning of each chapter, Vicenç Pagès Jordà provides a guide to introduce the reader to the plot, the characters, the style and the context. Classics not only introduce young readers to the pleasure of reading and awaken their imagination, but also provide them with linguistic and literary skills. From Robinson Crusoe to Peter Pan is aimed at teachers but also at parents and readers in general… because teenagers are just teenagers, but not stupid!
